Round-table discussion on the execution of decisions by ECtHR

On 7 February, 2024 Rights Centre hosted a round-table discussion on the execution of decisions by the European Court of Human Rights. Representatives of the human rights NGOs in Armenia took part. The event began with participants registration and a welcoming address by Tatevik Gharibyan, the Program Director of the Rights Centre. Nikita Kolomeits, a lawyer from the Department for the Execution of the Judgments of the ECtHR as well as Tatiana Cojocaru from the same department joined the seminar online and led the first session discussing the department’s role and the Committee of Ministers’ procedures in ensuring the execution of ECtHR judgments. This session included a Q&A segment, allowing participants to engage directly with the material presented. Anahit Santrosyan, Head of the Department of Enforcement of Judgments and Decisions of the Office of the Representative on International Legal Matters in Armenia, and Anna Shahnazaryan, Deputy Head of the same office detailed their office’s work related to the execution of ECtHR decisions. The final session, led by Anna Maralyan, President of the Centre, focused on the nuances of drafting and submitting communications to the Committee of Ministers under Rule 9 of the Rules of the Committee of Ministers for the supervision of the execution of judgements and of the terms of friendly settlements. The seminar provided comprehensive insights into the execution processes of ECtHR judgments and practical guidance on interacting with the Committee of Ministers, making it a valuable resource for professionals involved in human rights law and international legal matters.
