Manual on Gender Sensitive Court Proceedings

  • Post last modified:January 14, 2026

From July to October 2025 Rights Centre NGO implemented “Improving Judicial Response to Gender-Based and Domestic Violence Cases in Armenia” project, which aims to strengthen the judicial response to gender-based violence (GBV) and domestic violence (DV) in Armenia by promoting judges’ awareness of gender sensitivity, relevant legal regulations, and victim-based approaches.

In judicial practice, the examination of domestic violence cases often lacks gender-sensitive approaches, leading to the reinforcement of gender stereotypes, underestimation of harm and risks, and proceedings that fail to address the survivor’s needs. Civil society assessments indicate that improving this situation requires specialized training for judges.

This manual aimed to introduce the core principles and tools of gender-sensitive adjudication by integrating legal and psychological perspectives, enhancing the quality of judicial review in domestic violence cases, preventing revictimization, and strengthening public trust in the justice system.

The manual is available in Armenian at the following link։ Gender-Sensitive Court Proceedings
