From September 27 to 30, 2024 Rights Centre conducted a training on the UN human rights mechanisms. The sessions were conducted by intervenors Anna Maralyan (Rights Centre President), Armen Harutyunyan (judge of European Court of Human Rights), Marina Khatuntseva (Lawyer specialized in International Law), and Tatiana Chrnobil (Lawyer from Kazakhstan specialized in working with UN human rights mechanisms). The training provided a comprehensive overview of the UN system and its mechanisms for the protection of human rights. The participants were equipped with practical knowledge for engaging with UN human rights mechanisms effectively. The training delved into key human rights areas, including the right to life, freedom from torture, liberty and security of person, and freedom of assembly. It also addressed freedom of speech, as well as the right to a fair trial, including both general requirements and criminal aspects. Additionally, participants learnt about the right to private and family life, the prohibition of unlawful attacks on honor and reputation, and protections against discrimination. The training also included a practicum, allowing attendees to apply their learning in real-world scenarios. Interactive Q&A sessions throughout the program provided opportunities for deeper engagement and clarification.
